A Shot Straight From Gran Turismo's Photo Mode

 by Dustin Mankin

This scenery would make for the perfect car shot.It would be nice to park a car just a little closer to that perfect row of trees. Reminds me of the forest setting from Gran Tursimo...

I really need to remember how to get back there with my beat up old Nissan.

Phoenix Rising:

Phoenix Yellow ITR in Fukuoka

by Dustin Mankin

I was actually coming back from the area with the go kart pic, when I found this DC2 Teg Type R in what must have been the perfect photo location set up.

I love the old building's all muted colors, and how the Phoenix Yellow pops against it.

The car itself is stock, but that doesn't stop it from being a work of art. A stock DC2 is still no laughing matter.

For a few more Honda "R" vehicles, check out this NSX-R Pace Car, and this Accord Wagon Euro R

Small Engine Madness:

Retired (?) Go-Kart in Fukuoka

by Dustin Mankin

I was coming back from a day of walking all over Fukuoka, and I came across this. I didn't go into the store, because I admittedly don't know a thing about a go-kart, except that you can strap a Hyabusa engine on the back... and that's pretty cool.

It looks like it has seen better days, so I'm assuming that it's retired and just outside to announce the intentions of the shop inside... which is to sell you crap for your racing go-kart, obviously. I kinda want to put pvc over the tires and slide the fuck out of it though... who's in?

Then I saw this sign. After knowing katakana, I know that the name of the stor is actually R <3 Very, but at the time I thought it was Rovery (The heart looked like it wanted to be an "o."), which we all know would be great Engrish for "Lovely." Just food for thought.

RPM: Red Passion Men's Story

pt. 35

Well, damn. Whose side is Muto's dude on anyway? His or Rumi's? Why is it, every time you try to step up in life, someone's trying to step on your toes? I guess we'll see what happens next week. I'm working on scanning it in, right now!

RPM Special Feature:

DR30 Skyline in G-Works Magazine

by Dustin Mankin

I normally don't just scan magazines as an article, other than the RPM Manga Translation, but this tied in so well. Last week's episode, and this week's coming episode talk a lot about the Tekkamen, and the features, such as the red valve cover, etc. perfect timing, since this month's G-Works features a damn near mint DR30. I thought it would be nice to see a real live one in color. It was awesome to me, so I'm going to share.

It's hard to tell in the manga's black an white illustrations, but the red and black two tone DR30 is definitely something to behold. The car I'm about to show you differs only slightly, and that is mainly in the wheels section. The G-Works car is running some gold meshies, which is another popular wheel choice. Muto's has RS Watanabes. Also, the grille section is different, the magazine car has the Zenki bar style grille. Muto's is actually a Tekkamen, which in English means Iron Face.

Just click on any image for a full size image! These files are huge!

After seeing it in real photos, isn't it a lot easier to see how it can elicit these feelings and actions from the characters in the story? Or is it that the story has made me fall in love with them that much.... you know... they are over 25 years old, and I can import one if I ever come back.... hmmmm. Wonder what the future-wife would say?

What do you think? Hit me up below! I really want this blog to turn into a discussion forum. I love hearing different opinions!

Quick Snap: Beautiful Curve

by Dustin Mankin

I know it's odd, but when I approached this curve in Fukuoka.... I could just imagine this camera angle as well as a few others filming a huge ass smokey drift. For some reason, i can picture Nomuken's 2004 Gunmetal R34.... maybe because he's from Fukuoka, too.

Shaggin' Wagon:

CH9 Accord Si-R Wagon in Fukuoka

by Dustin Mankin

I've got a soft spot for wagons and hatches. So when I saw this thing I was pretty damn excited. Sporty or not, a wagon just doesn't last long in this country. As it gets older and less desirable, it gets shipped and parted out to 3rd world countries, or worse yet... crushed. It's just too expensive to keep an older car on the road in this country.

I remember always wanting the older Accord Wagon, based on the 90-91 vehicles. It was ok. But THIS thins is sexy. If God ever see fit to throw an ridiculously large wad of cash in my lap, and I can get the car collection that I want... one of these will go in it.

I'll be honest, I didn't know much about the Si-R wagon.... so I spent some time at Wikipedia.

"Accord Wagon SiR (CH9 FWD 1999–2001, CL2 AWD 2000–2001)

The SiR wagon model included the only 2.3-liter H23A DOHC VTEC H-series engine in the Honda line-up. The H23A engine was rated at 200 hp / 190 hp (AWD) at 6,800 rpm and torque of 162.8 lb·ft (220.7 N·m) at 5,300 rpm, 10.6:1 compression, 87 mm (3.4 in) X 95 mm (3.7 in) bore and stroke, and a 7300 rpm redline like other H-series VTEC engines from factory. The H23A also came with a blue valve cover and was the largest displacement of the H-series Honda engines. The H23A was mounted with a tilt towards the driver. The H23A had a longer stroke than the H22A. Specifications for the H23A were; 87 mm (3.4 in) X 95 mm (3.7 in) bore and stroke and H22A has 87 mm (3.4 in) X 90.7 mm (3.6 in) bore and stroke. The H23A had better acceleration because the peak torque occurred sooner at lower rpm when compared to the H22A."

So there it is, pretty interesting stuff for the guys that are into engine swaps. 200HP won't break your neck, but for a car that looks like it's ready for a trip to the market... it's not bad. Slap a turbo on it and you could probably squeeze 300 out of it, and still be perfectly streetable.

Throw Back Thursday:

Red STi

Just an STi with some work done under the hood. Simple, yet efficient. By the way, the Project 180 page will be getting a little bit more lively again, this week!

Throw Back Thursday:

  Fresh CR-X

by Dustin Mankin

Sorry, I know I missed the mark by a few days, but this week's been a little hectic, getting back in the groove of everything and editing a brand new video. This one from an event in TN.

This is a good example of a build you could pull off on a super tight budget. The wheels don't even look like custom steelies to me, just painted. The stance is brought down, which to be this low, says coilovers, but maybe a budget brand. The paint, however, looks really nice, and I would imagine, unless he sprayed it himself, that it was the most expensive thing on the build. We also have the mandatory roof rack, as well as clear corners.

and a lip.... does that look like garage door molding to you? If it is, it still looks good, and the only error was that top corner looks like it stops just a little bit short.

Still when coupled with the other CR-X in the background, which was featured here, makes a nice little budget duo roaming the streets daily.

My first thought when I saw this was "Devil Z." If you don't know what that means.... do you even Wangan, bruh?

RPM: Red Passion Men's Story

pt. 34

Translated by Shinobu Magoshi and Dustin Mankin

Super sorry for the delay, guys. It had just gotten to a point where I didn't have time between work and the car build and life. But here is the long anticipated pt. 34. Muto HAS decided to go check out the car at the dealer and it looks like Rumi is starting to change her mind a little bit.

Hopefully I'm on track to get these out more regularly again! Stay Tuned to find out!

I don't post too much content that isn't original, apart from the RPM Manga translation (which is coming back this week!) But, I just happened upon a video of this game on YouTube, while I was taking a break from editing.

This thing looks insane, and they are funding it via kickstarter. The website for more info is www.driftstagegame.com

Here is some video of some people playing the pre-alpha, which is a free download at the game maker's website.

Red S13 Silvia at Night

by Dustin Mankin

I've been away for a while, so I'm gonna hit it up lightly in my return. I'll explain more in a blog post towards the end of the week.

I found this S13 while roaming the streets late at night. Looks like someone believed the old adage "wheels make the car," because that's all they did.

I would, however, love to liberate that front end, to add it to my growing collection of body parts that I don't use.

More RPM This Tuesday evening.
